First Day Excitement… You can’t park there!

So, we take the truck back over to the Rivian charger that gave us over 300kW!  Charged up both the Pebble and the truck. A little later, while going through the Grapevine near Gorman, we saw this huge backup going northbound.

Then we see smoke. Later we would learn that they closed I-5 in both directions due to the Ridge Fire about 10 minutes after we went through. Yikes!

We charged again at a Walmart Electrify America in Santa Clarita before continuing on to my son’s house. No pictures, sorry.  I ran into Walmart to use the facilities, and when I came out, there was a queue of 6-8 people standing at the open door of the Pebble, waiting for their turn to tour. It looked like an EV show! GPA-EV was giving tours. Always fun. About that time, a two-bladed Marine One helicopter flew over. hrmm? President or one of the decoy helos?

If that wasn’t exciting enough, we had a little mishap with the Pebble parking it in front of our son’s house.  Now, mind you, we have parked in this exact same spot the last time we moochdocked here.  GPA pulled in uphill and wanted to unhitch, use the Pebble’s “Motion” drive to spin it around, and park across the street from our son. Across the street is more level, and he has a fire plug in front of his house, so across the street is better.

The Pebble broke loose and started rolling down the hill. If it had gotten to the corner, who knows how far down it would have gotten. GPA threw a shoulder into it, and it curved toward the house, missing a light pole by 6 inches. The front jack caster wheel hit the curb and bounced over it. That was truly “cringe-worthy.” There was a CRUNCH, and the Pebble kept going. Up on the sidewalk, the main wheels bounced up the curb, and it finally stopped when the caster sank into soft dirt next to the sidewalk.
