Pebble RV – All Electric Trailer Grandma-EV, July 17, 2026July 18, 2026 It’s been a long time since my last post. I hope to get back in the swing of things and post regularly. We have a cross-country trip coming up, and I’d love to document that. First – Lots of big news! Meet Bree @ 5 mo. We lost our dog, but got a new puppy. Our old dog, Claire, passed away in Nov. ’25. She was our travel buddy. She was only 12. In February, we got a new puppy, another West Highland White Terrier, named Bree. Look for her to be traveling with us. April ’26, we purchased an all-electric RV, a Pebble Flow! This is our BIG retirement splurge for ourselves. It has so many high-tech “Party Tricks.” I could fill 10 blog posts about it. For now, if you want to know more, click the link and check it out! I’ll fill in all its features in future posts. I ordered a 2027 new Bolt RS EV with SuperCruise in habanero orange. This will replace my 2019 Bolt. We are fully electric. I can’t wait for it to arrive! About being fully electric… we have added an EG4 battery to our house solar system so that we can use the grid as little as possible. ⚡ Grandpa-EV and I both retired in June 2026! It’s about time! We are excited to start this new chapter. With grandkids on both sides of the continent, we have planned some long road trips to visit them. Last year, we drove the Silverado EV from Northern California to Ottawa, Canada, and back. It was the first cross-country road trip for both of us. That was a wild ride! Out in 5 days and back in 6 days. Exhausting but fun! We had no issues finding chargers; in fact, we were shopping for the best prices and amenities. We drove out on I-80 and dropped down to I-70 on the way back, so that we could hit lots of brand new IONNA stations and see different scenery! IONNA was great, but I can’t recommend the scenery on I-70. I may post more on that epic trip later. I documented it all but fell off the posting bandwagon. The lesson we learned from that trip was that we don’t like “rolling the dice” for motels along the way. Some were okay, some smelled musty or funky. Some of them had disconcerting mystery stains on the carpet. Loading and unloading all our baggage each night was a pain. Finding lodging that was dog-friendly was a challenge. Then there was the expense $$$. Motel prices and RV park prices can be about the same, but with an RV you can boondock (no hookups) some places for free, like at many big truck stops, Walmarts, Bass Pro Shops, Cracker Barrels, etc., with permission, of course, as this perk may vary. We said NO to Motels! State parks and some RV parks are less expensive. We joined Harvest Host, which allows us to stay at all sorts of interesting places for free. I’m excited for the farms with animals. Grandpa-EV wants to go to the craft breweries! Check that link for more details on Harvest Host. We won’t need services at every campsite, like water, electricity, and sewer, as we can go a few days self-contained. We think the trailer will help save money (but don’t include the price of the trailer!), allow us to see interesting places, and have a better road trip experience. This trailer sets up fast and easy, including hitching, maneuvering, and leveling. So, this is our new reality. Lots of road trips in our fancy, electric RV! Ticking off states, provinces, and national parks as we travel through them, and, of course, hangin’ with the grandkids. So far we have taken 4 camping trips: Diamond Beltane, Elk Grove. Elk Grove, California. Early May ’26, 2-nights, no hookups, camped in a cow pasture. Just a “shake-down” weekend, close to home for a medieval event for SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism). Yes, we are those geeks! Whiskeytown Lake near Redding, CA for a sailboat Regatta on Memorial Day weekend, ’26. We camped for 2-nights in the parking lot of the launch ramp, no hookups. Adult daughter slept on the dinette bed. Grandpa-EV drove a borrowed truck to tow the sailboat, which meant I got to tow the Pebble! 😊 Big Blue ADU! Moochdocking at my son’s house in Santa Clarita, CA. June ’26, 4-nights, parked on the street, no hookups. The trailer was used as an extra bedroom for us, while their house was full for a grandson’s birthday party. Gold Beach, OR Another SCA event, a medieval war, near Gold Beach, Oregon. July ’26, 5-nights, no hookups, another cow pasture. It was for the West / An Tir war. An event with over 1500 people. We had a lot of people asking about the “spaceship.” Our medieval reenactor friends are serious geeks, just like us! I gave so many tours! We purchased the obligatory travel map but stuck it unobtrusively to the inside of a cabinet door. Two states filled in so far. So many more to go! We hope you’ll come along for the ride!
