1900 Miles in 2.5 days! Grandma-EV, August 22, 2026August 22, 2026 It's all a blurrr... Steak on the "Wandering Cooktop" The Pebble has an induction cooktop that I love. On one of our last nights, while stranded in Colorado, we made delicious steak from a local butcher. It was a nice evening so we moved the cooktop outside to the picnic table. No strong fumes indoors. It’s a really cool feature. Tuesday, 8/18 - The Calvary Arrives! Check-out time at Riverdance RV Park is the typical 11 AM. Pebble Tech, Cody, called to let us know he’d arrive from Denver at about 12:30 PM. Not wanting to pay for another day, we packed up and moved to the front of the park by the office. They have nice rocking chairs on a shady porch, which made a pleasant place to wait. The Cavalry Arrives! The office was closed on Tuesdays, but a staff guy chatted with us and said it was okay to hang out there and work on the Pebble. It was reassuring to know that they were cool with our plan. Also, our bathroom codes still worked after our checkout time, so bonus!Cody was so awesome. He had the new jack installed in a little over an hour. Steve helped. The new jack is quieter and from a different manufacturer. Still slooooow, though. Aerobox on the tailgateThe Magic Hitch camera came without the mounting bracket. Cody gave us the part and promised to ship the bracket to my daughter’s house in Canada. That was a minor disappointment, but at least we could get back on the road. Time to high-tail it to Canada! We were out of there by 1:45 PM!Dinner was at a food truck while charging. (I um… may have turned the dog green when I spilled green salsa on her!)We drove until about midnight. It’s not as bad as it sounds because we lost an hour going from Mountain Time to Central Time. We charged and stayed in a Walmart parking lot in Lexington, Nebraska. Most Walmarts allow travelers to park overnight for 1 day. You’re supposed to double-check with the manager, but this Walmart was highly recommended on the internet as a good place to overnight, except for all the noisy big rigs.OMG! There were more big rigs than you might see at a big truck stop. The picture only shows a few. There were lots of RVs too.Fortunately, the Pebble is pretty quiet inside when the windows are closed. We didn’t even notice the trucks with their motors running all night. Colorado – Nebraska Wednesday, 8/19 - Drive, Charge, Drive, Repeat Sun rise on the prairieWe got up at 5 AM in the dark and got back on the road. Charging, driving, charging, switching drivers… It’s all a blur. We had a lot of “creative parking” to avoid unhitching, but this one in Nebraska is memorable:Tandem charging from the WRONG side without blocking any stalls!Sorry that I couldn’t post until now because:A.) I was too tired, andB.) The only time I wasn’t moving, I was sleeping. (yawn)Breakfast was Starbucks on the road. Lunch: car snacks.Dinner: We needed a break. We needed a sit-down meal. We spied a Black Bear Diner. A favorite in Northern California. Comfort food. We couldn’t believe there was one this far East. It was HEAVEN. Then off to yet another Walmart in Benton Harbor, Michigan. We drove until about midnight again, but with another time zone change into Eastern Time.We tandem charged at a Rivian Adventure Network. Rivian almost always includes a “Trailer Friendly” stall. This one had 2!Tandem charging the Pebble and the Silverado EV at a Rivian Adventure Network charger.Another night, another Walmart parking lot full of RVs and a few big rigs. Nebraska – Iowa – Illinois – Indiana – Michigan Thursday, 8/20 - 𝄞♫ Oh, Can-a-da! ♪♬ Up at 6 AM. We slept in . And back on the road. Here is another awesome charging find. A GM Energy / ChargePoint in Livonia, MI, with two tandem pull-throughs!!! Why don’t they build them all chargers like this? It’s a two-deep, pull-through!Breakfast: Starbucks on the road, AGAIN.Lunch: Car snacks, AGAIN.Dinner: Snacks and leftovers. Crossed the Ambassador Bridge into Canada a little before noon, EDT.Ambassador BridgeThe border crossing went smoothly. The border agent asked us all about the Pebble. Bree got a little “pent up” from all the travel. I tried to run her around as much as was possible. But at night, when we wanted and needed sleep, she’d want to play. The truck moving is like a narcotic for her. She’d just sleep the whole time. She is a good traveler. Bree’s not stressed at all by all this travel.Charging in Canada worked on their Flo brand chargers.Flo charger in London, ONTraffic in Toronto was the expected mass of delays. We pushed through. We arrived at our daughter’s house about 10:45 PM. She had hot homemade tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches waiting for us! HEAVEN! 1900 miles, 2.5 days. I can’t believe we made it!The JourneyMichigan – Border Crossing – Ontario, Canada – Toronto – Ottawa!!! Friday, 8/21 - Reset and Nana-Time! Sleep – Food – Ground that doesn’t move. YES, PLEASE!I’d have liked a lazy day, but no rest for us. Laundry, grocery shopping, unpacking all the goodies we transported for my daughter and her family, repacking, cleaning… Still, I found time for some much-needed “Nana Time” and snuggles.Nana Time with Grandkids #1 & #3Steve jury-rigged the Magic Hitch camera so it works. He’ll install it correctly once the bracket arrives. Side Note: I find it curious that we got very little interest in our unusual travel trailer over the week we were stuck in Colorado. I felt disappointed that the Pebble Mystique had faded away. Most people in the park seemed uninterested or incurious about us. Which is not the reaction we have come to expect. Weird. I was pleasantly surprised that once we got back on the road, we again attracted a lot of attention, questions, comments, double-takes, and requests to see inside. Maybe it’s because they see us charging? I don’t know. The next adventure-We will be back on the road again tomorrow. With daughter, son-in-law, his mom and dad, and the 2 grandkids. They will have their Kia EV9 towing a tent trailer. We are off to Quebec City and then Prince Edward Island. I’m very much looking forward to this trip. Regrets-I still have regrets about all the things we missed while stuck. The surprises I had planned for Steve. We were going to visit Riverside, Iowa – the future birthplace of Captain Kirk. (Star Trek geeks, we be). We were going to tour the Larsen’s Bakery in Racine, Wisconsin, because Steve LOVES Kringles – if you don’t know, it’s a pastry you can get at Trader Joe’s. Check it out. But Traders only ever has one or two flavors. There are like 50 or more. We were going to stay two days near Mackinac Island, take the ferry over, sightsee, play tourist, pet horses, eat fudge! Sigh, I guess we’ll have to try again next summer!
