Funny or Tragic? Grandma-EV, June 30, 2024July 1, 2024 I got a letter from a lemon-law lawyer all about ICE problems with the Bolt EV. Not only that, it was addressed to my elderly father-in-law, not the owner of our Bolt. I want to publically call out this scum firm for trying to scam a senior and not doing their due diligence. I think this is really curious. Has anyone else had an experience like this? Below is the letter from a law firm phishing for business. It was addressed to my father-in-law. My dad-in-law is in memory care and my husband takes care of his affairs and because of that, his mail comes to our house now. How this company matched my father-in-law’s name to the ownership of our car is sort of scary. I am not sure why they think he had a Chevy Bolt EV. My husband and I own a 2019 Bolt. My husband and his dad do not have similar first names. Here is the letter that came recently:There is so much wrong with this I don’t know where to begin. Wrong person: My father-in-law never owned a Bolt or any electric vehicle. It’s been years, maybe decades since he had a Chevy. He had two Pontiacs and a GMC. My husband and I do have a 2019 Chevy Bolt EV. Transmission problems? Does a Bolt even have a transmission? No, of course not!Engine problems? Yeah, that’s a BIG problem – No engine in a Bolt! Laughing at the descriptions, “rough idle, stalling, oil leak, coolant leak…” Oh brother!Electrical problems? Maybe a possibility, but NO. If their “…investigation has revealed that a number of consumers…” had these problems, would you trust their investigative competency? [UPDATE] Thanks to BehindBars an observant user from the Chevy Bolt Forum who pointed out another problem in this letter. They included the 2024 model year Chevy Bolt EV, which does not exist. 2023 was the last model year for the Bolt until Chevrolet brings them back on the Ultium battery platform! I am tempted to call this law firm and play clueless just to see if they figure it out. I’d say…“I never feel the transmission shift, I don’t think it works at all.”“It’s worse than a leak, they didn’t even install any oil or coolant!”[UPDATE] It was also pointed out that the Chevy Bolt does have 3 different coolant systems. However, they require less maintenance and incur fewer leaks and problems than ICE cars, I will concede this point.“I think the engine is completely missing!”I know, I know. This letter was generated by some automated algorithm that doesn’t have any common sense. This is still a shady business practice and it is targeted at an old and confused senior. It’s funny but also worrisome.
